2022 March Update

Well the virus is still with us but its not killing us too much any more but the chances of getting killed by Putin has multiplied massively. A mad world indeed with stupidly high increases in the cost of living and dread and fear wherever you look.

On the bright side because of the non lethal plague we can now go on foreign holidays, We have our Oz family over in May for a much needed catch up and a side trip to Tenerife.

Tom worked hard to get himself an excellent job at Hamble Aerostructures and is doing really well and enjoying it despite the 06:00 start time. He seems very content and in a steady relationship with our new house mate Monny.

Sam has a big couple of months coming up with his exams in whatever form they may take. He assures me he has it hand. We shall see !

I am nearly a 10 year veteran with oXya and I am still enjoying it, mostly working from home helps a lot.

2021 August Update

Well, what happened there then ?

Not a lot really to be honest. The hopes that 2021 would be better were dashed. Multiple lock downs, no foreign holidays and a really boring time. Many TV shows and films (and wine) devoured so it wasn't all bad.

Despite being double jabbed the whole household got covid-19 around 1st July. Thankfully just a week or so of flu like symptoms and incredible lethargy combined with the expected lack of taste and smell. One symptom they don't advertise is the incredible squits you get. Herd immunity is in progress and it looks like the vaccines are preventing serious illness and death, which is nice.

I am still working from home, Jackie is back working again. Tom is putting lots of hours in at McDonalds whilst on the hunt for something more permanent and Sam is still mostly on the Xbox.

We did manage to squeeze a couple of quick stay-cations in and had a great time in Bath and Wales.

2020 December Update

Wow what a year ! Hopefully 2021 will bring happier times.

News here in short ... Tommy was not able to sit his A Level exams and was instead credited with them and is currently look at engineering options. Sam has pretty much been solidly xboxing for 9 months, someone's got to do it !

I've been working from home since March and been going slightly bonkers as can be seen by the various hair colours and beard growing attempts.

Jackie has worn out Netflix and must have watched every rubbish film ever made now.

Other than that, not much socialising, no holidays - boo ! and little chance of getting to Oz any time soon.

I think I have almost got all the photos up to date now as there was a fair few from holidays going back a couple of years not uploaded. I moved the site over to Smugmug and it should now be a lot easier to keep up to date.

2019 Oz Trip

Another Christmas trip to Australia over so soon. A fantastic time was had by all and it was great to catch up with all our Antipod friends.

I am endeavouring to rejuvenate the website with a move of provider and a top to bottom redesign. Time will tell if I keep things up to date this time!

Sad News

I am sad to have to announce that mum passed away on 5th July after a pretty bad year where her final departure was actually a blessed relief. Sadly since then her brother Paul has also left us.

Some very bad news that cousin Wendy recently passed away way too young. Below is a photo from the wake with mum and her four brothers.

General Catch-up News (12/06/2015)

After another wonderful Christmas Down Under we came back to the dreary old UK to be met by the news that my company has been sold to Hitachi Data Systems. On the face of it a little worrying but it looks like it may be a very good thing for us. Time will tell. Not a lot has changed really, no massive news to divest other than the boys are both undergoing massive growth spurts. The Chastos arrived for another visit just 5 months after we last saw them and we have been drinking and eating far too much with them. A side trip to Rhodes was great and I can already hear the muttering of future travels being planned. Lots of new photos have been uploaded, enjoy.

I have finally finished mucking around (for now) with the website and it should be much more user friendly on mobile and pc. All the photos are fed from Flickr and all the videos from Youtube which makes it much easier for me to update so hopefully there will be more content. Any comments let me know. My company now sponsor Tom's football team and they have a nice new kit...

General Updates

19/08/2014

Over a year since the last written update, bad boy. What's been happening then ? Well Tommy has taken his first year at his new school in his stride and done really well. He is maturing fast and is a very well behaved young chap. Extra care is being taken in his appearance so I expect girls to be on the scene any time soon. Sam is still testing us at every opportunity and he is such a strong willed (argumentative) fellow. I wonder where he gets that from. We have just endured another 10 days of torrential rain in the van and have decided this will be our last year but with the excitement of another Xmas trip to Oz to keep us going. My job is still going very well despite losing the only customer we had! We have picked up some more work now from France and have a few things that will hopefully lead to some new clients. Mrs T is still as gorgeous as ever and is looking after us all very well.

19/08/2014

Lots of improvements to the website. The first page of sliders was a bit too clever for its own good so that is now replaced with this blog type update page. The whole idea being to try to make me update it more often by making it quick and easy to do. I think it is now so it should be updated more regularly. The photo pages are now using a live feed from Flickr and the videos are Youtube playlist feeds. All quick and easy.

The Tooth Fairy is delighted to announce that after much a wiggling Sammy Sizzles first front tooth has been delivered.

General Updates

10/06/2013

A new plastic shed has now sprouted next to my plastic grass and my masterplan towards total plasticity continues !! The job is still going wonderfully well and the Timmons family seem to be very happy and content at the moment We have recently returned from the oXya annual party in Paris which was great fun and also included a strenuous 5 a side footy tournament. Tommy is preparing himself for the leap into secondary school whilst Sam is still the cheeky little chappy who is seriously testing his parents fuses ! We have a couple of weeks at the van to look forward to in the summer building up to our trip to Oz over Christmas and New Year.

21/02/2013

It has been almost a year since I got free from the shackles of IBM and I still can’t believe how badly they treat their staff, its disgraceful. It was the best thing I ever did and I am a different person now. I now do a job I enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere with nice people and I care about what I’m doing. They also appreciate me which is very nice too. Jackie is as wonderful as ever and the boys are doing great. Tommy is a lovely lad at the moment and Sam is being a little sh*t which will hopefully change soon or one of us will be sorry. We have just booked our next trip to Oz for Xmas 2013 and are really looking forward to catching up with the distant leg of the family.

10/06/2013

Some videos and snaps from a while back have been uploaded and also the video pages now work properly in Ipad/iphone.

21/02/2013

Finally some updates and more changes. The site is now even swisher than before if that was possible ! The changes were sort of forced on me by Steve Jobs. I found that all my hard work on the photo galleries was wasted as you could not view them on Apple devices. So now Timmos.com should be fully IOS compatible. This front page story should automatically change in 20 seconds and move on to the next one. You can go back or forward through the stories with the buttons above. On the photo pages you can let them play through or stop them with the mouse. Use the back or forward buttons or select from the small images on the right.

Old News

Finally pulled my finger out ! - (31/03/10)

The extension is now nicely run in and the kitchen has become a real family area now. The boys have actually taken over the living room now which was not really the idea. The weather has been pants for months now and rain is almost certainly guaranteed as we are off to the van soon. Tommy has really grown up now with his floppy hair and Sam too is growing faster than we would like. They are both still great kids, pretty laid back and no trouble at all. I'm settling in to my new job but haven't really got used to not doing shifts yet (not least the money side of it !) The job itself is looking a bit dodgy right now so fingers crossed I don't get the boot. We've just been to Wembley to watch the mighty Saints crush Carlisle 4-1. What a great day out that was. Photos and videos of this and more have all been uploaded and I think I might just be up to date now.

Slacker...I know I've been busy - (16/12/09)

Extension pretty much done, kitchen fitted by my own fair hand and photos updated - under "Other Photos" > "2009" > "Extension". Still got lots to add on of the boys - will try to get to it !

Updates (16/09/09)

Plenty of bricks laid now . Seven weeks in and lots done, nearly finished - lots of photos under "Other Photos" > "2009" > "Extension".

Updates (29/07/09)

A brick has been laid. (well a block actually but its a start).

Updates (26/06/09)

David, Maree and Will have been and gone and we had a great time along the way. It was all a bit hectic with trips out here there and everywhere combined with large bouts of drinking. It was great to see them again and sad to see them go. I have now started my new job and its all a bit of a shock working only days for the first time in 21 years. I hope I'll get into a routine soon and start to be a bit more productive. Tommy has lost his first front tooth and is very proud of the fact and Sam is just getting taller and louder every day. I have put up lots of photos of the the recent trips under 2009 - Chastos trip and still need to add a few of the videos. I will try to get to it soon but I seem to have less time now I'm off shift. The extension has still not been started.

Updates (13/05/09)

A load more photos updated. Tommy has now moved on to get his green belt in karate which surprised everyone not least his teacher. I think finally he is taking it more seriously. Sam has started pre school and is taking a little while to get used to it but mostly having fun. He did think after the first day that he had done the school thing and that was it for ever. Poor sod. The extension has not got off the ground yet although the bits under the ground are sorted. Piles complete, base dug out and the rockery has been removed all 13 tonnes of it. We fired our builder as he hadn't actually built anything despite a promise to start before Christmas 2008. The only time he called me was by mistake when he dialled a wrong number. The new chaps seem to know what they are doing and hopefully we will be going upwards within the next 2 months. Sadly my job has gone to Hungary and from 27th May I am becoming a UNIX Database Administrator, still with IBM and on a fast track education push to get me up to speed quickly. It seems like I may have to work a bit harder at this one ! Before all that stress and hard work I will have the equally hard task of keeping up with David in the beer drinking stakes as the Antipods are joining us for a few weeks here and a week in Spain. Look out my liver and get the gout pills ready. There should be some interesting snaps to come.

Updates (16/03/09)

All photo pages updated. Tommy just got his second orange belt at Karate and is getting very excited about moving into his new room. Sam is getting on well on the loo (mostly) and his vocabulary is ever advancing. The extension has still not yet been started due to problems with the foundations. Its a pain in the arse as we need to have piles (no pun intended) due to the depth of a sewer under the existing conservatory. The builder has run away until we get this sorted. Plenty of hard work with a concrete breaker and lots of digging has got us nearer to getting this done. My other little project is complete now (Salon) and I'm very proud of the results of as it was all my own work from knocking down the supporting wall and adding another joist to the last dab of paint. My job at IBM is in its last throes of going to Hungary and its a bit soul destroying giving away something you've worked on for yours. I think I have something in the pipeline to move on to and a new direction may be just what I need. Watch this space.

Updates (06/10/08)

Added photos from Charmouth holiday, not too many as it piddled down. Various other photos of Wendy's dinner party, some Dik took and a few I have been editing. Plans for the extension have been approved, just sorting out builders quotes now. Sam is now in his own ' big boy bed' but is still having problems realising he should be sitting on the potty before having a pee and not slightly after. Also decided to take the advise of Steve Strange and I am gracelessly Fading to Grey. (as will probably be seen in the next set of photos).

Updates (28/07/08)

Finally got round to putting up some photos, been really busy. Tommy has had his 6th birthday at the end of a hectic week which involved a grand tour of England with our Oz buddies, Rode, Jode and Kendall. We took them to Winchester, Pompey, Stone Henge, Waldour Castle, Charmouth, all along that coast. Then to Bath and Windsor the next day finishing up in London....700 miles ! Tommy got his orange belt in karate and Sam had his first pee on his potty ! Sam is starting to speak very well now but can't say his 'F's . A frog is a gog. Sam will be 2 next month and Tommy is really enjoying being able to play with him properly now. The plans for the extension have been put in so will just need to wait for months.

Updates (24/04/08)

The house move was finally called off when the last prats suddenly found no one would give them a mortgage. So we are not now moving, probably a good thing with how things are going in the economy and with my job uncertainty. Lots of photos added on all the separate pages. The boys are growing up too fast so we had better make the most of them while we can. Tommy is going to be 6 this year and Sam 2, both are still very funny little men who keep us highly amused and really good kids (most of the time). As the house move is off the plan is to have a bit of an extension done here and to renew and update lots of stuff in the house. I'm sure this will all appear in photos at some point.

Updates (05/09/07)

Lots of pics on all pages added. Tommy is now 5 and Sam has passed 1. Jackie is as beautiful as ever and I'm on a bit of a diet as I was becoming a lardy arse. Sam had a little mishap breaking his arm by falling off the bed. He normally lands on his head and is ok. He is out of the plaster now and is fine. Sam is just about standing on his own now and I'm sure it won't be long before he is walking. He has 5 and a half teeth and is still a big roly poly lump of joy. Tommy has started his second year at school and seems to be enjoying it.. He is also mostly a little star with his emotional moments decreasing. We are in the process of trying to move house and were all set to go until a nasty little Mr Fong decided his child would get cancer due to the power lines that run about 150 metres from our house. So he pulled out and we are trying to get another buyer quick smart.

Updates (17/07/07)

Finally got round to updating the website, a combination of being too busy and too lazy. Both the boys are still a joy and make us smile every day. Lots of photos added on both Tom 4-5 and Sam 0-1 pages. Not many, if any of Jackie and I. I'll have to remedy that next time.

Loads of photo updates added on Other Photos, 2007 page covering our month long trip to Oz (15/03/07)

Photo updates added on Sam's page, Tom's page and 2006(15/12/06)

Photo updates added on Sam's page, Tom's page(25/10/06)

Photo updates added on Sam's page, Tom's page and 2006(26/09/06)

Photo updates added on Sam's page, Tom's page and 2006(28/08/06)

Photo updates added on Sam's page(19/08/06)

Sam Timmons arrives (02/08/06)

Jackie and I are delighted to say that Sam Timmons entered the world at 09:38 on 2nd August 2006 weighing in at a hefty 9 pounds 9 ounces. This obviously gives me plenty more reasons to keep this website going. Thanks Sam and good luck on entering the Timmons household.

Updates (30/07/06)

finally got round to doing some updates that include photos of a holiday to Rhodes, Clive's 60th birthday party, Tommy's 4th and various other bits and bobs. Two days to go now until the next arrival, everything is far too calm for my liking and no one is stressed out about things which is a worry in itself. Photos of bump 2 coming soon.

If you hadn't already guessed I have been playing with the design and used a nice Dynamic HTML menu tool and also decided to make it planer and simpler with no frames. All the old content should still be where it was before so you won't miss out you lucky people.

Updates

Right then, its been far too long again but is up to date now. Plenty on there now, holidays to Ibiza, Dublin and Tenerife, the last couple in the wonderful company of David, Maree and Will who spent the best part of a month with us drinking copiously every day.

Tommy is now 3 and half and its scary to think he will start school in September being one of the youngest in his year. Have to ramp up the getting dressed and wiping botty training now then. We have the happy news that another little Timmo is on the way due in August so our lives are set for another drastic change. Come to think of it I'll also have to put on another new webpage for Tilly/Tessie/Totty/Tabby or Fred(12/06/2006)

Tommy has now passed his third birthday and is still growing fast. He is a little pleasure most of the time and when he's not he's a little *&*%!! Added a few more photos of a trip to Longleat, a curry night, his birthday and a walk in the woods (which he loves doing at the moment - me too).(25/07/2005)

Updates from holiday to Tenerife and Charmouth and a few other bits and bobs. I finally finished tiling the bathroom and it looks great. Tommy is coming up to 3 now and is still great fun. He gets himself up in the morning and has mastered the art of peeing on his own whilst holding his willy. Years of fun ahead to be had with that skill! (07/06/2005)

Lots of new photos added - Xmas 2004 and also split the Bump page and other Photos into individual year pages as they were beginning to be to many for one page. Tommy had another visit to the casualty department after flying off the bed and splitting his chin. This is getting to be quite normal now. Also got a new digi camera so hopefully I might get a few more pics up as I know I've been slack again. (07/01/2005)

Holiday photos from trip to Albir, Spain and a Thomas day out. Photos added to both pages.(07/06/04).

Finally got the holiday photos up. Not too many of famous tourist sights as we mostly saw the inside of pubs ! Photos added on Baby page and Other Photos.(05/04/04).

Naughty Daddy, being slack on updating the web page again. Tommy is now 19 months old 85 cm tall and 2 stone 2 pounds. He is running around like a mad thing and chatting away in Martian. He is learning words at a great pace and at the moment everyone is called Daddy and every colour is blue! Holiday coming up very soon to Hong Kong and Oz so there should be some interesting pics from that.(10/02/04).

Photos added of Tommy taken by Dick and a photo of the house taken from a helicopter.(30/10/03).

Photos added of Tommy up to 14 months old and pictures of all my hard labour on the new patio. (22/09/03).

Some holiday snaps from Spain May 2003 on the Tommy page and some of us on photos page. Also some of our FA Cup run and the new drive. (11/06/03).

Pictures on Baby page up to Tommy being 9 months old. (14/04/03).

More pictures uploaded to Baby page and Other photos page from Christmas 2003. (16/02/03).

Pictures of our trip on the Watercress line with Tommy as mini-me Santa. (18/12/02).

Photos of Sam's birthday night bash in Eastleigh.... for now anyway before I get requests to remove them (04/11/02).

New photos added in Baby Photos section and believe it or not, also in the Other Photos section! (17/10/02).

New photos added in Baby Photos section (16/09/02).

New photos added of Tommy (11/08/02).

Tom Timmons arrived at 03:59 on 6th July 2002 (18/07/02).

Sad I know , but seeing as I haven't updated this site for nearly 2 years I thought I had better do something about it. There seemed some sort of point in putting stuff on the site when we were in Australia but since we came back I didn't think people wanted to to see us pottering around mostly drunk in Southampton. For some reason I imagined it was slightly more alluring from down under. Anyhow, now I've managed to pop a little bun in Jackies' ample oven, I reckon I might have a few reasons to post some new photos here. I'll see how it goes. I'm going to try and make it simpler now with just straight forward photos and not too much fancy stuff. All the photos can be enlarged by clicking on them - thats it. Of course the old site is still available in its entirety using the links on the left. (10/06/02).

Really Old News

Last updated Monday, June 05, 2000 06:57:05

As promised, here is the next instalment of Timmo's Thrifty Travel Tours with special thanks to our Sydney based Airport taxi service, Horton's Limos...

Auckland

Having returned fresh and alert from visiting David and Maree down in Geelong (not) we set out on the next leg of our tour to New Zealand. Luis and Toni had kindly invited us to stay at their place and duly proved to be the perfect hosts providing us with plenty of booze and pornos! Auckland has a lot in common with Sydney and everything around the harbour has a familiar feel with the bridge and tower and the general layout of the place being not dissimilar.
We spent 3 days at Whangamatta (pronounced Fongamataaaaa) which is about 2 hours from Auckland on the East Coast. We stayed in a batch (beach house) owned by a some of Luis's friends, Bobbi and (oh buggar, I can't remember his name for the life of me), who were a really great couple. We didn't do too much really, a bit of walking on the fantastic beach and a fair bit of eating, drinking and resting. Before heading back to Auckland I gave Luis and Toni a special insight into my character by a fart lighting performance. The strange thing was they seemed very impressed and urged me to wake them up and let them know if I had another one ready to let rip in the night. Trying to do this to order is not a good idea as I very nearly drew mud when trying to strain one out. Back in Auckland the guys had to go to work so Jackie and I had a mosey round Auckland. They were just winding down the Americas Cup celebrations so there was still a fair bit happening around the city and there was plenty to see. We had a good night out a local comedy club with a Cockney compere and a couple of lesbians in the crowd who were oblivious to the acts and were virtually in each others knickers. Disgraceful, I very nearly complained to the management. We had a great week in Auckland and (if you read this) thanks very much Luis and Toni, I hope we keep in touch.

The Red Center

Not very much later was our trip to The Red Center, very kindly organised by Rod and Jode. We took very early Ansett flights to Alice Springs via Melbourne, Perth and Darwin (well it bloody well felt like it). There was 10 of us in all, ourselves, Rod, Jode, his parents Bob and Carmen, Mark the firey and Louise and Mick and Yyvone, a very mixed bunch ranging in age from 29 to about 127 (sorry Bob). First stop was Alice Springs for less than a day, in fact I think we were there perhaps too long. I'm not quite sure why anybody actually does goes to this 'half horse' town unless its to see the herds of roaming Abo's consuming rocket fuel in dried up river beds whilst devouring the leftovers of unsuspecting tourists who had nodded off with the excitement of the place. So where do you go for the night when your deep in the outback, of course, its the local 5 star Casino to get merrily sloshed. Next day (bright and too bloody early again) we picked up our turbo nutter bastard hire cars and gently motored down to Kings Canyon about 300+ km away. The car had a neat little device that bleeped if you went over a certain speed, unfortunately the highest it would let you set it as was 195kmh. So most of our journey was full of bleeps. Not surprisingly you might think we did have a too close encounter with a rather large Wedged Tail Eagle who was happily munching on some road kill. Oh well, they do say you are what you eat and he very soon became just that. He did try to take evasive action but unfortunately his direction of retreat was in exactly the same direction that I was going, so 200kmh car versus 20kmh bird = big splat. Kings Canyon was very impressive, we went straight into a 3 hour climb/trek and I got absolutely knackered after about the first 5 minutes. There were some great views and a hidden oasis deep down on the Canyon floor, I really liked this place. I had another bird encounter when Rod was videoing what looked to be a rather boring scene of two birds sat in a tree doing nothing. I suggested that If they were to fly away it would add some action to the shot. I picked up a stone to throw into the branches to hurry them on their way. One of them took off quite nicely and the other seemed to fly in a sort of downward direction without flapping its wings. Not sure what could have caused this. Checking in at the resort we found a strange man in our very standard room and got upgraded to a rather nice suite with a spa. That night involved.....wait for it.....loads of beer. They have a 2 litre bottle of beer here called the Darwin Stubby which is reputed to be the largest commercial beer bottle in the world. So we had the odd one or seven of those and the evening ended with rod dancing on the table and him and Mark trying to 'double doogey' a passing backpacker. The evening was finished off by a quite remarkable display of multi coloured projectile vomiting from Mrs T. I don't know some people will just drink far too much. The next day we were on the road again down to Ayers Rock (another 300+km) which we knocked off in about an hour and half. We were staying at Sails in the Desert which was a very classy place on a purpose built resort village. That afternoon we headed for the Rock, which really is bloody impressive. Decisions then had to be made of who was going to climb it. Jackie, having been half way up it before made a minor effort and sensibly decided that a spot of sunbathing and chatting to everyone coming down was more her style. There is a chain half way up that sort of assists you but I think it was more to stop you getting blown off although the conditions we had were perfect. After about 20 minutes of a very steep climb/crawl/rest my calf muscles were exploding and I realised that this was certainly no easy task. Also I wanted to punch all those cocky gits on their way down who were merrily spouting 'you've done the hard bit now.' Second base camp was set up about three quarters of the way up where we regrouped (Rod, Jode, Louise, Mick and myself) deciding whether it was really worth doing the last bit. Collective spirit drove us on and the last section across the top was not that bad. We reached the highest point to find a little brick column with a metal plate on it, I thought the least they'd have would be a bar. I should have mentioned earlier that the Aborigines apparently do not like you climbing the Rock (not that we saw any of this) and that you would be cursed. I'm not sure what sort of curse I've got on me now but I'm sure its a bit worse than your normal Rock Climb Curse as I unfortunately got caught a bit short and had to have a pee up there. We felt very pleased with ourselves for doing the climb as it is no easy feat but the effort exerted displayed itself with everyones lack of energy that night. Early to bed. The next morning we took a helicopter flight from the Rock over to the Olgas with Cartman and Bob. Never having been in one before this was a great experience. That afternoon we did another hike round the Olgas which is another set of monoliths. Again fantastic and inspiring scenery combined with a healthy amount of exercise. That night was our 'Sounds of Silence' meal, or Dinner in the Dirt as Jode liked to call it. This consisted of being bussed into the outback to watch the sunset over the Rock whilst sipping champagne. A sumptuous bbq of emu, croc and roo and plenty of vino put everyone in a jolly mood. Some chap then appeared out of the bush gave us a little didger on his doo and then hopped off again. Then came the 'Sound of Silence' as the organisers blew out all the candles and recited a poem afterwhich he asked us to sit and contemplate the silence. As soon as he had finished reciting the only silence we could hear was that of a 747 taking off from the nearby airport. Then came a very 'up herself' astronomer who used a super powerful torch to point out the major constellations like biffo the bear and corky the cat. She then gave a big build up to pointing out the center of the universe and attempted to direct her torch at a spot low on the horizon but only proceeded in pointing it straight between Marks' eyes who nearly fell off his chair in a blind stupor. Mark shall now be forever known as the 'Center of the Universe' (Although Louise said that this was nothing new). Of course I did my wise arse Pommy thing by asking the woman to point out the North Star, there bitch, get out of that one then. Home the next day after what was a great trip, thanks Rod and Jode for organising it.

Port Douglas
At last home for a bit of a rest, but no. A recent phone call By Jackie to her mum discussing the fact that she had a few days left before she retired, (Jean that is, not Jackie, who has been retired for some time now) spawned the idea that Jean she come to visit us. The next day the tickets were booked and I knew then that the up coming week of offs was destined for travel. And so it was, Far North Queensland here we come. Jean arrived on the Monday and we had her back on the plane again on Wednesday flying with us to Cairns, bound for Port Douglas. We stayed at the Port Douglas Reef Club, which I'd thoroughly recommend and the place itself is great. The first night was just down the pub to catch the second State Of Origin Rugby League match (for the Poms who read this, that is NSW v Queensland in what is probably the biggest sporting event in the Oz year). There was a great atmosphere and at the start of the evening Jean knew nothing of Rugby League or the NSW-QLD rivalry, but by the end she was cheering along, shouting at the tele and singing 'whose the bastard in the black' with the rest of us. At the start of this trip Jean had an unbendable rule about alcohol, it was 'I don't want to be bad'. Since she never really defined what bad was I took it as a personal challenge to get her sloshed every night. Not wishing to put a slight on Jeans' impeccable reputation I'll let you guess how it went. The next day was spent on beautiful Four Mile Beach with an evening on the beer.Jean said 'I don't want to be bad'. The following day we went on a trip with another very nice English couple to and a guide to the Daintree Rain Forest. First up was a trip along the river where we saw wild crocs and numerous endangered birds (Great Billed Heron for any Ornys out there). Lunch was taken after a trek through the forest in search of the elusive Cassowary (large emu type bird). The forest is quite spectacular, like nothing else I've ever seen. We took a quick dip in one of the forest creeks after being assured that although crocs had been seen in it some time ago there were none there now. A very quick swim that was. On to Cape Tribulation and another fantastic beach and then back for another evening on the beer. Jean said 'I don't want to be bad'. There was a 3 day Carnivale on in the town which made the whole place a lot more lively than it would probably normally be. Next we had a day trip to the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef for a bit of snorking. Now Jean had not done this before and was a little worried but came through with flying colours. If there had been an Olympic event for Singles Ocean Swallowing I think the UK would have a certain Gold with Jean. She was OK at first but then got some water in the nose area of the mask. 'Breathe through your mouth' I hear you say, not our Jean, a big intake of ocean for her. Now, 'breathe through your mouth' I hear you say, nope not for Jean. Whilst inhaling water through her nose she then decided to let in some through her mouth as well. 'Get your head above the water' I here you cry, not for Jeanie, water coming in through mouth and nose she decided that sinking would be healthier. Sense prevailed after a bit of life saving from Jackie when Jean saw the light and ripped the whole gear of her head and decided that she no longer required her gills and would be much better off with air. Although the Reef was very good I was not as impressed as I'd expected to be. Lots of fish and some nice coral but not the vibrant variations in colour and that I thought I'd see. Still a great day out. Returned to Port Douglas for an evening on the beer. Jean said 'I don't want to be bad'. On Sunday we hired a car and drove to Cairns which was not that exciting really. There is no beach, just a vast mudflat that is not that attractive when the tide is out. On the way back we stopped in at the Croc farm to see some nutter hand feeding this 500kg beast. An awesome display from one mean animal. Back to Port Douglas for an evening on the beer.Jean said 'I don't want to be bad'. We flew home the next day to be met by Horton's Limos and I had about an hour or so to sort myself out before heading on to a 12 hour night shift. Port Douglas is a great place to holiday, go there if you can. Thats it you're up to date now, no more holidays planned just yet but I know that won't last for long. Jean has another week with us and we're taking her to the Olympic Stadium to see State Of Origin 3. Duncan is back out here soon with Andrea and Danielle is out for a trip this week so I can envisage plenty more evenings on the beer. Just for the Poms, I had to scrape frost off my car after the lasy 2 night shifts - Buggar!
